EMDR – Is It Right For You?

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a well-known treatment method used to alleviate the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other anxiety disorders. It was developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s and has since gained widespread recognition for its effectiveness in treating trauma-related disorders.

EMDR therapy involves a series of standardized procedures that include the use of eye movements, taps, or sounds to stimulate both hemispheres of the brain. This process aims to reprocess negative memories and emotions that have become stuck in the brain due to past traumatic events. This technique helps to reduce the intensity of emotional responses to past traumatic events and promote adaptive coping mechanisms in order to support the client in enhancing their quality of life.
